Roots of Friendship: A Sustainable house in the Heart of the Kibbutz

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This two-family house was designed to celebrate the enduring bond between two childhood friends. Situated in the vibrant center of an Israeli Kibbutz, the design draws inspiration from the architectural heritage of the 1950s' traditional Kibbutz houses, seamlessly blending tradition, sustainability, and modern comforts. Our vision harmoniously situates the house in the heart of the Kibbutz, creating a natural integration with the historical fabric and ideology.

At the core of our design lies the philosophy of unity and individuality. Though appearing as a unified structure from the outside, the interior spaces have been thoughtfully customized and tailored to reflect each family's unique preferences and lifestyle. This approach celebrates the coexistence of shared experiences and personal expression, fostering a sense of belonging and comfort within the home and the community.

Respecting the Kibbutz's natural surroundings and way of living was paramount in the design process. By delicately situating the house amidst the historic trees and blending with the natural topography, we ensured a seamless connection between nature and the built environment. This harmonious interplay instills the dwelling with a captivating ambiance that reflects our commitment to preserving the Kibbutz's inherent beauty and tradition of communal living in ecological equilibrium.

In keeping with the spartan essence of traditional Kibbutz houses, the design employs a simple material palette that radiates warmth and authenticity. Locally sourced materials contribute to the sustainability of the project while showcasing the craftsmanship of local artisans. The restrained use of cast-in-place concrete, timber, and natural earthy tones throughout the exterior and interior, establishes a timeless connection with the region's architectural heritage.
