שכונת נווה שאנן היא אחת השכונות המעניינות והמורכבות ביותר בעיר תל-אביב יפו. מאז היווסדה, בשנות ה 30- של המאה שעברה, שימשה כ"חצר אחורית" ל"עיר הלבנה" הצמודה לה. לצד תושביה הוותיקים, מתגוררים כיום בשכונה פליטים ומהגרי עבודה המשנים את אופייה ומתאימים אותו למסורות ולתרבויות השונות מארצות מוצאם. למרות שהליכה קצרה מובילה מהשכונה המוזנחת לשדרות רוטשילד המטופחות, ההבדל בין השכונות הוא תהומי. החל מהרכבה הרב-תרבותי של האוכלוסייה, דרך התשתיות העירוניות המדולדלות ועד לשירותים הקהילתיים המצומצמים. פרויקט זה עוסק בפיתוח מייצבי תאורה ע"י שימוש מחדש בחומרים ואובייקטים שסיימו את חייהם השימושיים והוגדרו כפסולת. החזרת החומרים ל"מחזור החיים השימושי" נעשה ע"י התאמת העבודות לאתרים ספציפיים ואופן התערבותן בסביבה הקיימת.

 

הסדנא התקיימה במסגרת "שבוע מרקחה" במכללת שנקר בהנחיה משותפת עם יאשה רוזוב וד"ר גבי פורמן ובהשתתפות סטודנטים מפקולטות עיצוב והנדסה.

Neve Shanan is one of the most interesting and complex neighborhoods in the Tel Aviv Metropolis. Since its founding in the 1930's, it was perceived as the backyard of the adjacent  "White City". Alongside its veteran population, refugees and migrant workers are changing the neighborhood’s character, adapting it to their different traditions and cultures. Although a short walk leads from the neglected neighborhood to the manicured Rothschild Boulevard, the difference between neighborhoods is abysmal. The multicultural population, its impoverished municipal infrastructure and limited to community services are extremely noticeable. In this workshop students developed, designed and made light-fixtures and installations by reusing waste materials and objects found in the neighborhood.  The projects were made for specific sites in the neighborhood, adapting the works and their intervention to the existing environment while restoring materials to their "useful life cycle".

The workshop was held as part of the "JamWeek" at Shenkar College, under the joint direction of Designers Yasha Rozov and Dr. Gabby Furman, with students from design and engineering faculties.
